My first assignment for the Photography Class I'm taking at the St. Pete Arts Center with Rob Moorman is to take 5 pictures in manual mode with the theme "A Walk In The Park." Allison went out tonight (she was in charge of wardrobe which explains the somewhat odd clothing she's wearing for this assignment) to the park to take some pictures and I quickly remember why I love the automatic setting on my camera. Take a look at the bad ones:
Blurry:
Under exposed:
Over exposed:
I did manage to get a few good ones in manual mode:
I actually had a few more cute ones but lets just say we had a wardrobe malfunction and they just aren't internet ready.
I am committed to learning more about photography but at this moment can't seem to think of any good reason not to use the automatic setting to photograph my very active - never sit in one place - kids. Hmmm.
"Hey Mac - do you want to go the park?" There's still some good light at 8 pm on a Tuesday night in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Who says that you have to be able to capture your fast kids on manual? I think manual is great if you aren't getting the results you want in auto or have a more cooperative subject. There are so many things to remember and set properly in manual. Personally I like AV mode the best. I just adjust the depth of field and ISO myself and let the camera choose the speed and focus itself.
Good luck with your class.

I've been using manual almost exclusively since February. I've went to some really AWFUL photos to some absolute stunners. Stick with it girl! You'll be so glad you did! (And if you need a reason, just look at those last two photos . . .) ;)
